Unix on an Apollo?

Has anyone tried porting BSD to Apollo Domains?  Or are there any
more BSD-like operating systems for the Domain series as alternatives
to DomainOS?

Seems like there are a lot of junk-heap CPU’s around here that would
get used if they just didn’t run DomainOS….

Email would be appreciated.

Printing to Laserwriter from An Apollo

OK, I give up.  I’m trying to use the BSD spooling software on a
DN4000 running SR 10.3.5.  I’ve tried a zillion permutations, but
nothing ever seems to make it to the printer.  I’m using /dev/sio1
with a serial cable attacyhed.

Mmaybe someone can help.  My printcap entry is the following:

ps|PostScript|generic PostScript printer:\
        :lp=/dev/sio1:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/ps:\
        :lf=/usr/spool/lpd/ps/LOG:af=/usr/spool/lpd/ps/ps.acct:\
        :br#9600:rw:sf:sb:\
        :if=/usr/lib/ps/psif:\
        :o f=/usr/lib/ps/psof:gf=/usr/lib/ps/psgf:\
        :nf=/usr/lib/ps/psnf:tf=/usr/lib/ps/pstf:\
        :rf=/usr/lib/ps/psrf:vf=/usr/lib/ps/psvf:\
        :cf=/usr/lib/ps/pscf:df=/usr/lib/ps/psdf:

I have the transcript software, so that’s legal.  Yet, when I queue a
print job, the job appears in the queue for a while, then vanishes.
The log file for lpd (for that printer) inidcates that it thints it
quued and printed the job.   But no output ever appears.

The printeris a LaserWriter Plus, running at 9600 buad.  Could it be
misconfiguraed? No yellow lights ever blink on the pri8nter.

Help!  I need to print!

GMR-Library wanted !

I have an DN580T, usually equipped with an 3DGRA, but I don’t have
the supporting GMR-Library. Does anyone know where this lib is
available. Would be very great, ’cause the chip doesn’t work
without the library. i heard the lib costs money ???????
also I need the DOMAIN/PHIGS or DOMAIN/PHIGS_RT package.
every tiny bit of information is welcome!

Hmmm.  Funny I should read this from home.

I’m working right now on a DN2500 with a modem attached to sio1.  I’m using
emt in a vt100 session with no problems.  This is not to say that I have a
fantastic speed on everything, but no characters have been dropped, and I
have at least 50% idle time.  The vt100_server is the process taking up most
of the used time, followed by emt itself, the DM, and then the dspst process.
Often, I have 80-90% idle.

I have a fast modem (ZOOM 14.4) but it’s talking at 2400, since the modems
at work are simple 2400 baud things.

If I’m to be believed, your problem is not DN2500s or DN machines in general.
Maybe you’re under-RAMed. (I have 28MB.)  Maybe you’re running a lot of
other tasks?  Generally, I’ve found that when the DM is grabbing a lot of time,
it’s indicative either of intense redraws, or a search/replace/whatever
operation in another window.  Are you cat-ing large files to your window?
Are you running in an obscured window?  (The DM is harder-pressed to display
things to partly-obscured windows.)

cannot find sysboot…

I just installed the 10.4 software from tape. Now i have to reboot, but the
system gave the error message:

sysboot not found

After booting from tape, i looked in the /sau7 directory, there was no sysboot.
I copied (via cpt) a sysboot file from another place to that directory, but
with no effect.

Who can give me the ultimate hint?
